An intermediate pad, sometimes called a buffing pad or conditioning pad, used for refinishing wood floors between seal coats serves several purposes:

1. Removes Dust and Debris: After applying the first coat of sealer, dust and debris can settle on the surface. The intermediate pad, with its fine abrasive grit, gently removes these contaminants without damaging the freshly sealed wood.
2. Evens Out the Finish: The first coat of sealer can sometimes leave a slightly uneven texture. The intermediate pad helps smooth and even out the finish, creating a better foundation for subsequent coats.
3. Improves Adhesion: By lightly scuffing the surface, the intermediate pad creates a slight "tooth" that allows the next coat of sealer to adhere better, resulting in a more durable and consistent finish.
